Pentedattilo is an impressive old village in southern Calabria. The village is a 45 minute drive from Reggio. The nearest destination which can be reached by public transport is Melito Porto Salvo or Saline Joniche.
Matera – The Stone City
The Sassi di Matera – “stone city” was probably founded by the Romans in the third century BC. The buildings are located on both sides of a valley. The streets in some parts of the Sassi is located on the rooftops of other houses. A more “modern” city was built around the thirteenth century.
Gran Paradiso National Park
Gran Paradiso National Park is located between the Aosta Valley and Piedmont regions, in the north of Italy. It was the first national park established in Italy, and the establishment was based on the protection of the ibex, which was a prime target for hunting.
Forte Spagnolo – The Spanish Fort
Forte Spagnolo is a beautiful medieval castle, located in L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region. It was built in the sixteenth century, and is a popular tourist destination, which bring thousands of visitors every year from all over the world.
Boccadasse at the End of Corso Italia
Boccadasse is a bit like Cinque Terre, but the area is smaller and does not have as much tourist traffic. The fishing village is at the end of the promenade of Genoa, Corso Italia and it is a good idea to walk the three kilometers along the promenade.
